Book love: Beans on Toast

Beans on toast!!! One of my favourite breakfast staples and now one of our favourite books. I bought this book only because it was about beans on toast. I paid little attention to the words or sentence or age it was suitable for. And when it arrived I realised it was just perfect for our family.

I love a big Sunday breakfast, which includes – lots of eggs, sausages, bacon (if I can remember to shop for it in time for Sunday.), roast tomatoes & veggies. However after a baby arrived in our lives, big breakfasts were a distant memory for us. But whenever we do manage to wake early on a Sunday or have all the ingredients on hand, a big breakfast is most definitely on the menu.

Junior’s Fashion Week, Mumbai – an evening to remember

The last Saturday of September saw close to 140 mini models take over the ramp at Junior’s Fashion Week which was held at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Selected kids were taken through a workshop to teach them the basics of the ramp. The mini models then sashayed down the ramp to the exquisite Autumn Winter collection by the showcasing brands. From little 4 year old’s who toddled down the ramp to older children turning and twirling, the event was a sight that had us gasping at the poise, elegance and confidence and composure of the little superstars.

Motherhood taught me… “I am the Goddess incarnate”

Navratri or the holy nights where Goddess Durga is worshipped in all her 9 avatars, is a festival that is celebrated with much fervour in the family that I am married into. These 9 days and nights are considered to be highly auspicious. An eternal flame is lit on day 1 which is only allowed to subdue after the 9 days have passed. Aartis or prayers are sung with much enthusiasm and by gathering as many members as possible. The prayer that is sung speaks of the virtues of the Goddess in her 9 avatars and how she won over evil to bring peace and content to her followers. It’s been 8 years that I have been married into this family, but it is only after having babyT and thus becoming a mother myself did I start finding new meaning to the words and lines that make up this prayer.

A year with baby

BabyT is fast approaching two. I have seriously no idea how the time flew and now it is almost time for us to get him prepared for big people stuff like not peeing in diapers and going to a place outside of home i.e school. However the prompt for today’s blog post on the first year of baby for the 9 Days of Womanhood writing challenge took me back to those days where he had just arrived in our lives and we were still learning the basic roles of nurturing a baby. I thank Harneet Khurana for setting the stage for me. I loved her blog Sublime Messages on the prompt for today. And don’t forget to visit  PrettyMumma Says to see  Surbhi Mahobia’s perspective on her first year with baby.

Event alert: Junior’s Fashion Week comes to Mumbai

Years ago when I was working for a leading organization in the fashion retail segment, I was surrounded by designers, merchandisers and production experts. I loved my job because I was forever in the midst of fashionable clothes and discussions about clothes, seasons, colours, cuts, trims and samples. And most of all it was uber cute because it was all about kids fashion. I had mentally made notes then that when I had my child I would deck him up in adorable outfits and especially denim because it looks so good on babies, don’t you agree? BabyT already owns 6 pairs of shoes, a noteworthy denim collection with jeans in different shades, a t-shirt to match every cloth diaper he owns and has already taken over daddy’s wardrobe space.

Of Asparagus soup & CSec scars

What would you say if you were offered the following menu? Where would you think you were dining? Have a look at the feasts on offer:

  • Cream of asparagus soup
  • Multi grain roti
  • Coloured veggies sabji
  • Mixed dal
  • Vegetable pulao
  • Italian salad
  • Fresh citrus fruits juice

Sounds healthy but delicious right? I remember this menu so clearly and I can almost taste them all so vividly.  You better sit down when you read this, because it will surprise you. Here goes, this was on the menu when I was in the hospital recovering from childbirth. I had heard that hospital food was yummy but I got to experience this first hand during my stay there.

Motherhood & a new me

Ask any new mother and she will tell you how nothing prepared her for motherhood and how it totally turned her life upside down. I am one of these too. Motherhood has completely overhauled my life, my skill sets, my belief systems & values. It has changed me as a person – the way I view myself more than anything else. Hey, I made a baby, and I can do anything if I put my mind to it. Motherhood changed something big in me and here I tell you what it is.

Motherhood changed me at the very core and essence of my being. Sometimes when I sit back and look at the newness back and look at the newness of my life (not just in terms of a new baby and all that) I am astonished to realised that such a big change happened and that I did not even realise when it took place.

My miracle pregnancy

Did I ever tell you, I started this blog about a year back to talk about my pregnancy and how I emerged from battling infertility to finally being pregnant and having a child in my arms? I don’t think I have ever had the guts though to revisit that difficult time in my place. Therefore I have never written about it on my blog. This, in fact, is my 90th and something blog post here and I think I am finally ready to talk about it – my miracle pregnancy. Continue reading

Great things happen when women support each other: Being a woman in India in 2017

I am in a happy place in life right now. Everything in my life is surely not perfect, but I am happy. As I sat down to write about this topic I realised that I am lucky indeed to be living the life I am right now. I am a woman in 2017 who is living life on her own terms. It may not be a bed of roses, but this is my happy place and I revel in it. It brings me immense pleasure to share that I, along with 24 other bloggers are celebrating #9daysofwomanhood throughout Navratri. I thank Harneet Khurana for setting the stage for me. I loved her blog Sublime Messages on the prompt for today which is Being a Woman in India in 2017.  Continue reading

Goodnight, Sleep tight! with Night Time Cloth Diapering

So you’ve started Cloth Diapering. You’ve built cloth diaper laundry into your daily wash routine and daytime diapering is going great! Night times, ah, now therein lies the rub. For, what if the diaper doesn’t hold or there are leaks and what if baby wakes up when you change. Most cloth diapering mamas dread taking the first step towards nighttime cloth diapering. But as I experienced and so did most of my cloth diapering mama friends, the first night is the hardest. The morning after the first night of Cloth Diapering is pure joy.

W hen you find that the cloth diaper did indeed hold up all night and baby’s skin is still dry and soft and no rashes or redness, it is pure happiness. Night time cloth diapering is not as scary as it sounds and this post is meant to encourage you to take that step and try it out. Continue reading
