Mommy T's adventures; bringing up Baby T

Our favourite toys of 2017

2 days to go until the New Year, and about 2 weeks since babyT’s birthday has passed. As with any kids’ birthday party we have received lots of toys as gifts (most of which I shamelessly asked for mind you, keeping in mind T’s developmental needs and current inventory.) But bottom line is that with the entry of all the new toys I started collecting the old ones and putting them away for future babies (not mine, of friends I meant.) And that was the perfect opportunity for me to show you what our favourite toys of 2017 were. 4 easy steps to choose the best R.O. water purifier

What is that one device for the kitchen which no home can ignore? A refrigerator? A microwave oven? A mixer-grinder? You probably answered yes to all these suggestions. But are you sure you are not forgetting something even more critical? What about the very basic need of every human being – water! The need to safeguard your family from water-borne diseases are the reasons for the growing use of water purifiers. Water purifiers are not just a luxury but a necessity in every household today. But how much do we know about which is the best water purifier and even more important, how do we choose the best one? Continue reading

BabyT’s homemade birthday cake – dairy-free, maida-free

BabyT just turned 2 over the weekend and this time around I started all planning a month in advance and I am rather proud to say everything fell into place quite well. We had two parties for him – a private celebration with close family on the actual day of his birthday and another big birthday bash with all our friends and extended family. For both these celebrations, I was quite chuffed that everything from the decor to the menu to the entertainment was just as I had pictured it and most of all it made babyT very happy. So much so that he wakes up every morning and asks if there is another birthday celebration lined up for the day. Most important of all he asks if there will be cake? Continue reading

My morning cuppa

My morning cuppa time is sacrosanct. It’s my time to really wake from slumber and catch up on all the missed conversations on social media from the day before and respond to them. It’s my time to reflect on the day and mentally plan out my day. Morning Chai time has also been my time to have conversations with myself, alone about life, the universe and far beyond if you get my drift. If you had to look at the journey of my life in the last decade or so, I think I could explain it all over my relationship with my morning cuppa time. Continue reading

It’s ‘All About Christmas’ this season

Christmas is my most favourite time of the year. Some of the fondest memories of my childhood have been the Christmases I spent in London, walking the high street drowning myself in the festive fervour. Everyone  around, young or old, white, black, brown, yellow or rainbow (haha) would have a big broad smile on their faces and hearts. Christmas was also the time we spent time decorating the tree, making DIY presents for each other, while my mom would cook up her special chicken curry – a far cry from the traditional roast but it was our special celebration nonetheless and we delighted in it and looked forward to Christmas very eagerly.

Once I got married and moved to our own nuclear setup, we made our own Christmas traditions – cooking up a sumptuous Spaghetti (If you’d like the recipe, pls visit my food blog from another life here) and watching our favourite Christmas time rom-com: Love, Actually.

And then came babyT and I knew I wanted to make Christmas time special for him too. He is of course too young to be enjoying cooking and feasting and watching movies. Yet I wanted to introduce Christmas to him in a way he knows best – via books, play and art and craft. Continue reading

A journey into SELFHOOD

For most people, December has meant saying chuck it to New Year resolutions and saying aye to the weekend after weekend of parties. And now with babyT’s birthday also falling in December, its one more party added to the calendar. December is also a time when I sit down and look at how much our family, our baby and we personally have grown in our journey as parents. But what about I, me and myself, is a thought that has been constantly gnawing at my mind.

For me, year 1 with the baby was all about putting blinkers on my eyes and doing everything to keep that little bundle fed, cleaned and happy. Year 2 has been very different. It was about trying to find self-worth and prove to myself more than anyone else that I could rock motherhood and a zillion other things too. No, this wasn’t half bad as it sounds. It was in fact spectacular. Continue reading
