Top 5 family favourite Marathi series on television

Living in a Marathi household ever since my marriage, I have been exposed to many Marathi serials. In fact, it was one of the ways how I picked up the Marathi language so fast. And today when anyone hears me speak Marathi, they are surprised that it is a second language for me. I am quite proud of this accomplishment, all thanks to Marathi serials.

I wanted to share about some really amazing Marathi series on TV right now which are lighting up the televisions in millions of Marathi homes.

Tula Pahate Re

Tula Pahate Re is just another love story albeit free of the boundaries of age. The lead protagonists Isha and Vikram are poles apart in terms of lifestyle, social status and most importantly age. While Isha is fresh as a spring daisy, Vikram is old and graying. But that doesn’t stop love from blossoming. I love watching how they have innocent love fights and how a spirited Isha teaches Vikram the true essence of life and its intricacies.

There’s something about Gayatri Datar who plays Isha which is loveable and it kind of reminds me of how I was fresh out of college – free-spirited, had my opinions and did not think twice about voicing her mind. I am glued to the screen to watch how this love story unfolds.

One of the reasons why I love Marathi films and serials – they don’t shy away from broaching sensitive topics such as love and relationships beyond the boundaries of age. Tula Pahate Re is currently airing on ZEE Marathi. And even if we miss any of the episodes on air, we can catch them on ZEE5 app, anytime and anywhere, that to for free.

Majhya Navryachi Bayko

While we are on the topic of love and relationships, how can we turn a blind eye to affairs or extramarital relationships? Affairs are a true reality of society today and they can happen to any seemingly normal family. That’s what Mazhya Navryachi Bayko shows. It literally translates to My husband’s wife. This serial is 2 years old and was first aired in 2016. And it is almost 700 episodes old now.

Gurunath, the male lead, is happily married to Radhika until he meets a woman in his office – Shanaya. The episodes revolve around the various perspectives involved – the husband, his wife, the other woman and then the extended families – his mother, child and other friends of the couple. I highly recommend you to check out Mazhya Navryachi Bayko that airs on ZEE Marathi.

Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji

This is a historical series based on the life and times of Sambhaji, the son of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Living by the inspiration of his father, Sambhaji grows to become one of the fiercest Maratha kings who fought endlessly for Swarajya.

This period drama is on point with sets, costumes, speech and body language. It truly does transport you to a different time and era. Also, a good one to watch with your kids who will benefit from learning about history by way of the visual medium. You can watch this amazing show on ZEE Marathi.

Chala Hawa Yeu Dya – Hou de Viral

A favourite in almost every Marathi household, Chala Hawa Yeu Dya – Hou De Viral is what Kapil Sharma is to Hindi television. It is a chat show which has its own characters, stand up comedy pieces and chit-chat with celebrity guests from Marathi shows and theater.

It is a show which most Marathi families swear never to miss and if it is missed then these are caught up on the ZEE5 app. No wonder that this show is in its fourth season already. A laugh riot it entertains everyone – young and old.

Sur Nava Dhyas Nava

The hottest show to entertain the family is this musical show which encourages the singing talents of kids. Although Sur Nava Dhyas Nava is an old series, in its current avatar it is touching all our hearts. It invites little participants from all over Maharashtra in a competition to become the ultimate singing champion.

Aptly rechristened, Sur Nava Dhyas Nava Chote Surveer is a joy and it’s an absolute wonder how such young kids sing so well and with every chord in place. This singing contest show runs on Colors Marathi every Monday and Tuesday.

It’s easy for children to pick up language because their synapses are all well-connected till the age of 8 years, after which our brains only rely on existing synapses. Those that are used more and more become stronger and stronger. That’s why childrens are excellent at thinking out of the box.

However, you are a perfect example of genius. Because it’s not easy for grownups to pick language that easily, especially by watching series on television.

Good that you pointed out “Sur Nava Dhyas Nava” TV series that encourages the singing talents of kids. We have only few meaningful TV series that both children and parents can enjoy and watch together.
