Our favorite books this month – best books for 2 year olds

My 2 year old has an admirable book collection. His collection  boasts the best books for 2 year olds. He has over 100 books, all carefully analysed, acquired and stored by his mummy dearest, of course. In the course of #RaisingaReader I have seen first hand, how books have opened his tiny eyes to our world, delighted him, given him comfort and calmness and so much more. While I do share a lot about our book collection on my Instagram page – MommyingBabyT , I realized my blog doesn’t have enough about our books. So starting with this month – November 2018, I plan to write a post about our favorite books of the month. Continue reading

Kid’s book review – Nonni’s Moon by Julia Inserro

Summer holidays are the time for meeting cousins and family spread across the miles. For children, meeting family, especially grandparents who live on the other side of the world is a joy incomparable to no other. Sadly these moments of joy also turn into heartbreak when its time to say goodbye to loved ones. I witness many such episodes of tearful goodbyes every summer or winter holidays. There is something about face to face conversations while being wrapped in the warm, comforting embrace of a grandparent. But if only it was possible to have that every day.

Julia Inserro and her family who live halfway across the globe from their own families have devised a unique way in which children can now communicate with their dear grandparents. And that is what her book, Nonni’s moon is all about. Continue reading

Raising a reader – a little head buried in books

If the world of books was a wonderful place where one could get lost in time and travel to an enchanted place, children’s books are the way to get there. Parents today are increasingly introducing their babies and children to books from an early age. You would guess this would be when the children start reading. But, No. Children are being read to from the time they are as little as a newborn or even before – from the time they have been in mummy’s tummy. Continue reading

Baby Books – Introducing Art to babies

Once you’re a mom … something happens to your brain. The nesting syndrome transforms into the hoarding syndrome and you end up with baby clothes, baby blankets, cloth diapers, toys, baby carriers and baby BOOKS!

BabyT has close to 100 baby books by now. Two shelf fulls and two big Amazon box fulls. We mostly read just 10 of those baby books very regularly, but we still continue to buy. We are #raisingareader after all and here is how we do it.

Baby books have been a great source of bonding for both babyT and us. Whenever he is feeling bored or wants to vie for our attention he runs to fetch a book from his playroom, insists to sit on my lap and says “Booka Booka” prodding me to keep my phone aside and read to him. As for me, if babyT is edgy and cranky and overstimulated, I know reading a baby book is what gets him to calm down and soothe himself again. Win for both parties. <3 Continue reading

E is for eCommerce for baby shopping

Looking back, my pregnancy was one of the best phases of my life.. i was basking in everyone’s attention and I was still free to do whatever I pleased in life and whenever I wanted to, without a tiny little person clinging to my legs or breasts. 🙂 I miss my pregnancy a lot. I miss my baby bump a lot.. have never felt so comfortable with my body than I did when I was sporting a baby in my tummy. 🙂 And what do I do when I get really nostalgic about the bumpy days? I browse through the previous orders sections on ecommerce sites like Amazon, FirstCry and others. It takes me back to that feeling of playing totally blind, not knowing if it will be a boy or a girl, not being able to even imagine who baby would look like and how much he would weigh or his height. It was a beautiful feeling and looking at the old shopping lists – tiny booties, caps, baby diapers, bathing towels, blankets, nursing pads, cotton wool, wipes etc is so therapeutic.

Back then I mostly shopped and stocked for all baby stuff from Amazon, FirstCry, Hopscotch and Aliexpress. Then I got introduced to the other specialised ecommerce businesses, mainly for cloth diapers which were setup and managed by mompreneurs but were very professionally designed and run.  And then came social media – Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp and the businesses that were run through these. The online shopping category has boomed and how?! I  think I can say that almost 95% of babyT’s shopping is done online and I enjoy the experience and have been very satisfied with all my purchases.

So for today’s E is for eCommerce for baby shopping I will tell you about my favourite places to shop and some tips and tricks to make the most benefit.  Continue reading

B is for Books: How we are #raisingareader

A small background –  Ok, so I just learnt today about the A to Z blogging challenge and it sounds like a great opportunity to get me into the groove with my blog. So obviously I have missed the theme reveal and the letter A (I shall nonetheless blog about A is for) but with this challenge I want to talk about all things baby, mommy and babyT and our life. This month is jam packed with lots of plans, events, family time, celebrations and some more plans and I think it will surely be an ideal time to be blogging about it. So here we go!

B is for Books

One of the first things I added to my shopping cart for all the baby shopping I did before I had babyT was books. 🙂 I was reading aloud to him when he was in my tummy – I used to read a book about a little bunny, panchatantra tales and of course What to Expect when you’re Expecting. 🙂  And not only me, I made sure daddy-to-be and my parents (babies grandparents) also took turns to read my growing tummy.

I knew I wanted to surround our little one with books.   Continue reading
